What is Hanal Pixán

Hanal Pixán (“food for the souls” in Yucatec Maya) is how Yucatán celebrates Day of the Dead. Around October 31 and November 1 and 2, families set up an altar with photos of their loved ones, candles, marigold flowers and the food they liked.

That is why, at this time of year, many people restore a grandfather’s or a mother’s photo, animate it to see them again, take a catrina or catrín photo or order the invitation for the memorial Mass.
